Please join the ASCE Oregon Section and the Oregon SEI and SEAO chapters on Thursday, May 13th at 12:00 pm for our monthly meeting and presentation. Our speaker this month will be Erik Peterson, PE of Peterson Structural Engineers (PSE), who will be discussing the Willamette Falls Fishway Thermal Mitigation. PSE provided evaluation, design, and repair of Fishway No. 1, including a repair plan for foundational support elements and thermal force return tension rods to stabilize the structure and arrest the thermal actions causing damage to the structure.

About Erik Peterson

In his more than 25 years with PSE, Erik has served as a Project Manager, Structural Engineer, and Consultant for a wide variety of public and private clients. Erik became the Managing Principal of PSE in 2001 and continues to inspire and direct the firm.

His diverse range of experience includes a variety of structures from commercial and residential buildings, recreational facilities, pump stations, water reservoirs and treatment facilities, to fisheries, ports and docks, cofferdams and retaining walls. This insight allows him to offer effective insight into every project.

In addition to providing typical design and construction services for new construction, Erik has performed numerous evaluations of existing structures to provide analysis and design for potential upgrades. His extensive structural design experience and code knowledge makes him a valuable asset on upgrade projects; able to provide innovative and economical solutions to project challenges.

Erik also lends his expertise to clients involved in legal disputes over damages and structural problems and failures. He is frequently called upon to perform forensic investigations and analyses to help determine cause. This work includes providing on-site investigations and condition assessments, performing extensive design and construction document review, and acting as an impartial expert witness for legal negotiations and hearings
