This ZOOM presentation will go through the design of the new Oregon State University Marine Studies Initiative Building in Newport Oregon. This state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind in the United States to be designed as a vertical evacuation refuge for tsunamis and using performance-based design resiliency criteria exceeding standard building code requirements. The project also faced challenges with site soil conditions, a complicated peer review process and budget constraints.
