The Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) is seeking experienced professional to join our team as Structural Plans Engineer (Entry and Journey). This is a unique opportunity for a structural engineering professional to be part of the City of Seattle’s future.  This position reports to a Structural Plans Engineer Supervisor in Engineering Services within the Operations Division.

This is a challenging position in a fast-paced work environment. Structural Plans Engineers review plans, reports and calculations for a variety of construction permit applications to ensure ordinance and structural compliance with adopted construction codes (such as the Seattle Building and Residential Codes); verify the adequacy of structural designs based on generally accepted construction principles; prepare written correction letters; meet with applicants to clarify requirements, and approve applications for permit issuance. Structural plans engineers may also be assigned to coach architects, designers, contractors, and the general public regarding construction codes and processes; advise inspectors on field related concerns; investigate materials and methods of construction; prepare reports and assist in clarifying code interpretations.

  • Licensed/actively pursuing licensure.
  • Working knowledge of IBC.
