The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District has an opening for a Structural Design Engineer in the Engineering and Construction, Structural Design Section. Portland District is responsible for civil works projects on the Columbia River basin (Bonneville, The Dalles and John Day Lock and Dams), the Willamette River Basin, and the Rogue River Basin. The locks and dams provide power generation, flood control, navigation and recreation. The work at Portland District currently includes upgrades for fish passage improvements (both upstream adult, and downstream juvenile fish), and infrastructure upgrades to spillways, spillway gates, navigation locks and gates. The position will entail performing structural calculations, preparing reports, specifications, drawings, inspections and working in a team environment. Nicoli Engineering, Inc. is searching for full or part-time self-motivated, experienced, Professional and/or Structural Engineer licensed in the State of Oregon with the ability to obtain licenses in additional states. Candidate will interact directly with clients and ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Requirements: A minimum five (5) years of structural design experience with skill in pre-planning and preparing structural design calculations, contract documents, and detailing on a wide variety of challenging projects. Experience in AutoCad required. Applicant will have strong written and verbal skills for communicating with clients, potential contractors, and governing authorities. Applicant shall have an excellent working knowledge of building codes. Successful candidate will have prior experience with small to medium sized residential and commercial structural design and experience in wood, concrete, steel and masonry design. The ability to observe and investigate construction defects and damage, along with the ability to prepare written reports, drawings and structural calculations for remedial repairs is a plus.
